Burnopfield Park.  The situation is as follows. Over 3 years ago when the Bowls Club was disbanded, We had concerns that due to a lack of use and purpose for the park, there was a real risk that the facility could be lost to the Community and so we put a notice out asking residents and organisations to identify how they felt it could be best developed. Unfortunately the response to this request was poor with only 2 residents and one organisation showing any interest.Burnopfield Scouts expressed interest in tacking over the Bowls Pavilion and using it and surrounding land for scouting activities.Around the same time Durham County Council began to carry out a review of Parks and Play area provision throughout the county.During the course of this review major issues were identified in connection with the condition of the Pavilion that suggested a very significant amount of money was required in order to make it safe for use.Earlier this year the Partnership discussed how the village as a whole should developed and improved in the future. On Sunday 21st April 2015, the Partnership held a Public Launch Event in Burnopfield School. The purpose of this was to identify the level of interest in developing a Neighbourhood Plan. This was well advertised and quite well attended with over 100 residents attending and expressing an interest. From then further meetings have been held at the Community Bungalow at the east end of the village, Where areas and aspects of the village were further discussed. From this an number of sub groups have been set up to work on specific areas and issues that have been identified. The sub groups include People, Community,Development of the park is an issue being considered by this sub group). Environment, Connectivity and Commerce. At the present time these sub groups are meeting to discuss issues identified and will will bring forward issues and methods of how they feel we should be moving forward to our next Partnership Meeting which will be taking place in the Community Bungalow ( Old Man's Hut) onThurs 13th Aug at 7.00pm. Residents,Representatives of Organisations and Businesses within the village are always encouraged to attend. I extend a invitation to you and you are more than welcome to join us. It maybe that you would also like to join the sub group that is looking into the development of the Park.I hope this information helps. If you require anything further information or clarification on any of the issues please get back.
